It has been a year since the Covid-19 pandemic. We have all done our best to maintain and sustain our livelihoods and our businesses. Some businesses need to close down after many considerations. Some businesses thrive in the event of a pandemic, while some businesses pivot their business directions to ultimately stay relevant in the current state of affairs.
Life in the fast lane has kept us busy, hustling and bustling at every turn, with no time at hand to evaluate or reflect on the state of our businesses, our goals, and our true purpose for the products and services that we provide to the world. In a way, the pandemic has allowed us to relook at the way we work and function, from the traditional to the largely remote working scene, as we navigate our way through the inevitable pandemic uncertainty.
Pandemic uncertainty has certainly bogged us down as to which path to take, which decisions are to be made and what the future holds for all of us. You are definitely not alone in experiencing feelings of overwhelm, frustration, and confusion.
Let’s focus on what we can do instead of looking towards the great unknown that we can not control. We can utilise the time we have now to regain our sense of clarity about what we would want to contribute to the world with the tools and skills that we do have.
Let’s regain business clarity with these 5 questions:
1. Where Do You Want To Be In 5 Years’ Time?

Imagining your future self in five years’ time looking back at the current you, what would he/she say? What would be the business goal that your future self would be happy to have hustled for? Ultimately, that goal can then serve as a milestone to achieve, as well as help you to take the steps and make the decisions that align with your intended business goal.
2. How Do You Want To Spend Your Days?

You would not want to be many years down the road to only figure out that you have been spending your time climbing the wrong mountain. It is therefore good to be very honest with yourself about what you really want to be doing with your time on earth. Time passed can not be taken back, so make sure to take heed to your heart to figure out what activities and what kind of work you would do, so gladly fill the days you have been given.
3. What Gets You Out Of Bed In The Morning To Do The Work That You Do?

Your “why” will not be the same as another’s, and it’s totally OK because there is no right answer. Everyone has different reasons for building the businesses that they do. You just need to be clear that whatever business that you are building, you are leading it with your values, your mission, and your sense of style.
4. What Are Your Strengths And Weaknesses?

We tend to overlook the things that we are good at. Something that is easy for you may not be the case for another person. So ask around and see what some of the things that you are good at that you may not have noticed because you have been doing it for so long that it has become normal to you. As for weaknesses, be open when you ask for constructive feedback from those you trust, and be honest that you can’t do everything and that you may need help from others.
Admitting to the limits of energy and time may save you from unnecessary burnout or even becoming stuck in your business process. For the same amount of work, you can find a Business Processing Outsource (BPO) to have more affordable services that match your project-based needs.
5. How Much Do You Need And Want To Make?

Let’s be honest, matters of money are important as well, besides your passions and ideas. Your financial realities do determine business decisions and outcomes. Know your value. Price your product or services at a rate that matches your deliverables so that you don’t undercharge and overdeliver.
It is beneficial to refer back to these five questions once in a while to continuously reframe, reposition, and readjust ourselves on our way to the destination that we are heading towards.
